On Tuesday I made some calls to the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation department. I was frustrated that I could not get through to anyone at the posted phone numbers and that there was no main line phone number so I could speak with a human and get some answers.
Then, magically, yesterday, the clouds lifted. I got a phone call from someone who manages the “Addopt a Park” program. I called him back and had a good conversation about my intentions, what the Parks & Recreaction department needs and what the next action needs to be.
Next I need to determine what I want to do with this Stewardship Committee and how I want to organize it all.
We can do physical labor, awareness boosting functions, money raising events or any combination of the above.
My immediate ideas include but are not limited to:
- Park Clean Up
- Landscaping fix up day
- Painting Day
- Raise Money to replace benches, maintain trees
- Park Watch: inform regular maintenance staff of issues (leaking pipes, broken pipes, etc.)
After I complete some brainstorming I need to discuss it with my wife and determine how best to present it to our community association.
