Hmmm, this post has been sitting here since, well Thanksgiving. I’ll bang it out quickly and hopefully it’ll help someone somewhere.
I’m leaving tomorrow for Thanksgiving. I’m taking the red eye from San Diego to Boston. I want to take my laptop, iPod and Treo. I don’t want to take chargers for all three. I bought an iGo charging system and let me tell you it’s been a real fiasco.
Radio Shack
It took three visits to Radio Shack to get a complete, unopened package. Apparently they were in possession of some refurbished units, two of which were missing the tip I needed for my Dell Inspiron 6000. Be sure you open the package and confirm the tip you need is in there before driving home. This is one case where I’m glad I went brick and mortar instead of Amazon or Ebay.
iGo
Lots of add-ons but basically they sell a good product. Sadly the charging system they sell doesn’t actually charge my Dell. It will power it but not charge the battery. Why? I’m not sure. Suffice to say that I’ll be checking whether my next laptop can be charged with the iGo before making a purchase.
Apple
Interestingly, the new Mac laptops which use the magsafe connector don’t play nice with the iGo due to Apple’s refusal to license the Magsafe connector. Another item for the “con” column of my pros and cons list when considering a Macbook pro as my next laptop.
